The Player of the Week for the week of September 15th is Ashley Newman of St. Pius X High School. She led the Sartans to the APS Metro Volleyball Championship. Her Stat totals for the 4 matches 18 sets played; Blocks 6 total (including block assists); Digs 27; Kills 60 Kills on 142 attempts;Aces 1
According to Coach Ryan Sakamoto, "Ashley is a strong willed, strong minded player who is one of the leaders for the '08 SPX Sartan volleyball team. Ashley has an eager attitude and a great work ethic. She is a crucial piece of our offense with both her hitting and her passing. Ashley has many talents and offers so much but what is most intriquing about her as an athlete is the fact that she keeps improving each match. " Ashley is equally talented in the classroom and carries a 4.2 GPA. Ashley's all around play led the Sartans to an APS Metro Tournament championship. She had an incredible week with victories over West Mesa, Del Norte, Eldorado and top seeded La Cueva leading the Sartans in kills 3 of the 4 matches.
