Melissa Rohr of
Cibola High School
With 3 exciting matches, all victories over teams ranked in the Top Ten for state. Eldorado (3gms to 2), Del Notre (3gms to 2), and La Cueva (3gms to 0). Melissa helped lead Cibola avenge earlier losses to Eldorado and Del Norte in the APS Metro Tourney with her strong play and leadership on the court. In the 3 matches and 13 sets total, Melissa had 9 solo blocks, 5 assists, 63 digs, 28 kills, with a 31.4 hitting percentage, 4 aces,115 service receptions with only 8 errors. Melissa had the final kill to close out 3 sets. According to Cibola Coach David DesMaisons, "Melissa is a vocal leader. She has backed up her coaches' claim as "the best defensive player in the state". Melissa is willing to play anywhere on the court and excels with her anticipation of the game. Melissa is the heart of the team and her teammates lookup to and respect her." Melissa was an All-Metro Honorable Mention player in 2007. Melissa does a great job in the classroom by maintaining a 3.5 GPA. In the winter, Melissa will play for the very strong Cougar basketball team. Melissa is also part of "Young Life", a church group that meets 1 or 2 times a week.
